In the tight-knit community of Chelsea, Quebec, supporting one another is part of the fabric of daily life. Unfortunately, today brings a story no one ever wants to hear, but in the spirit of giving back, it's important to share it. On August 31, 2024, the life of a young athlete, Lily Kunstadt, took a tragic turn in a devastating accident while training in Saas Fee, Switzerland. This post is written to help spread the word, offer support, and hopefully provide Lily and her family with the care they need on this long road ahead.

A Rising Star, A Tragic Turn

Lily, a U16 Ski Racer from club de ski Mont Tremblant, was part of a bright future for Canadian skiing. Last season, she was on track to make waves, having already placed second in both Slalom and Giant Slalom at the Ingemartrofén races in Sweden. But on that fateful day in Switzerland, an equipment malfunction catapulted her into the air, resulting in a catastrophic fall. She suffered a broken back, broken ribs, and severe burns to her face. The community, coaches, and teammates who know Lily understand how much this accident has turned her life upside down.

The Fight Ahead

Lily’s journey is just beginning. She’s already undergone a grueling seven-hour surgery to repair her spine and faces another surgery soon. Currently in the ICU, with her loving parents Eric and Shannon at her side, she is receiving critical care. The severity of her injuries has caused a loss of feeling below the waist, and her road to recovery will be long and difficult. For the family, this is an emotional and financial battle, with extensive therapies and medical care needed to help Lily regain mobility and live independently. Despite the challenges, everyone who knows Lily believes in her strength, determination, and fighting spirit. This is where the community can step in and make a difference.

How You Can Make a Difference

For those wondering how they can help, the answer is simple: donations, sharing the message, and offering emotional support. Any financial contribution, whether large or small, will go towards covering Lily's medical expenses, rehabilitation, and adjustments to her home. The family also deeply appreciates messages of encouragement and positivity, knowing that community support will provide Lily with the strength she needs to face her recovery head-on.

Lily has always been known for her resilience. From competing in multiple sports like field hockey, soccer, and sprint kayaking to training in Chelsea’s Athletica gym, she is the definition of a hardworking athlete. And now, this strength will be put to the ultimate test.

Supporting a Strong Spirit

In October, Lily was set to be inducted into the Chelsea Hall of Fame as a Rising Star—an honor that speaks volumes about her dedication and success in sports. But today, her most important race is the one she’s running for her health and recovery. Her two younger brothers, Levi and Elijah, look up to her, and they too will need support as they adjust to their sister’s new reality.

Let’s rally together and show the Kunstadt family that they are not alone. With love, hope, and support, we can help Lily overcome the challenges ahead. Please donate, share her story, and continue sending your well wishes. Your support means the world to Lily, her family, and everyone who believes in her resilience.
