Celebrating its 31st operating season in 2022, GCB has established itself as a world-class bungee site, attracting thousands of thrill-seekers every year. In this blog post, we'll dive into what makes GCB so special, what activities it offers, and some tips to prepare for your bungee jumping experience.

Founding and Mission

GCB was founded in 1990 by Matthew Lawrence BA, MBA, to provide the highest degree of safety possible while offering an extremely unique, world-class bungee site. After months of searching for the perfect location, GCB chose "The Rock" at Morrison's Quarry, where they opened their doors 14 months later. The site offers a 200 ft. bungee jump, the highest in Canada, and The RIPRIDE cable slide, providing endless excitement for all who visit.

Safety Standards and Worldwide Notoriety

GCB is more than just a bungee jumping site. Since their grand opening in 1992, GCB has diversified into stunt work and engineering, training courses for startup companies, equipment manufacturing and sales, and more. They've gained worldwide notoriety, particularly for their involvement in several world-record-breaking stunts and appearances on popular TV shows such as "Ripley's: Believe it or Not" and MTV's "Road Rules." Safety is a top priority at GCB, and they have been involved in the research and testing of new products, procedures, and safety associations and standards. In 1992, GCB helped form the Canadian Bungee Association and authored safety guidelines for the organization, which are now used in several jurisdictions around the world.

Tips to Prepare for Bungee Jumping

Bungee jumping can be an exhilarating experience, but it's important to prepare both mentally and physically. Here are some tips to help you get ready for your jump:

  • Check with your doctor: Before you take the plunge, it's important to ensure that you're physically fit to bungee jump. While bungee jumping is a relatively safe activity, it can still put a lot of strain on your body. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions, such as heart problems or high blood pressure, you should consult your doctor before attempting a jump.
  • Face your fears: Bungee jumping is not for the faint of heart. It's an activity that requires you to confront your fears head-on. But if you can muster up the courage to take that first step off the platform, you'll feel an incredible rush of adrenaline and a sense of accomplishment that will stay with you for years.
  • Trust the professionals: When it comes to bungee jumping, safety is paramount. That's why it's important to choose a reputable company with experienced and well-trained staff. At the Great Canadian Bungee, you can rest assured that you're in good hands. With over 30 years of experience and a flawless safety record, they're one of the most trusted bungee jumping companies in the world.
  • Dress appropriately: When bungee jumping, you'll want to wear comfortable, athletic clothing that won't restrict your movement. Avoid wearing anything too loose or baggy that could get caught on equipment. You'll also want to wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes with good traction.
  • Take the leap: When it's finally time to jump, try to keep your nerves under control. Take a deep breath, clear your mind, and focus on the feeling of excitement and exhilaration. And when you're ready, take that leap of faith and enjoy the ride of a lifetime!
