This year, over 60 campsites will be available, with an additional 20 opening later in the season as construction progresses. While the beloved Philippe Lake campground won’t be fully open until 2026, there are still plenty of opportunities to camp under the stars in this breathtaking conservation area just minutes from Ottawa-Gatineau.
La Pêche Lake is a dream for those looking to escape into the wilderness. Known for its serene waters and hidden inlets, this campground is Gatineau Park’s only site dedicated to canoe camping. Adventurers can paddle for 30 to 90 minutes from the boat launch to reach their campsite, soaking in the park’s stunning landscapes along the way. Canoe and kayak rentals are available for those who need them, making it easy to access this peaceful retreat.
For those who prefer a more traditional camping experience, Philippe Lake offers a mix of tranquility and accessibility. This campground is split into three sectors, each with its own charm. Taylor Lake provides a quiet, semi-wilderness setting, ideal for campers seeking solitude. Renaud Lake features a rustic loop, perfect for those wanting a more back-to-basics approach while still being close to the water. The main Philippe Lake sector, popular with families, offers more services and is located near the beaches and boat launch. Due to ongoing construction, only a limited number of sites at Taylor Lake and Renaud Lake will be available this summer, but they still promise an unforgettable experience.
The modernization of Philippe Lake’s campground is a significant project aimed at improving facilities and minimizing environmental impact. Originally built in the 1950s, the site is getting a much-needed upgrade. Once completed, visitors can look forward to new ready-to-camp units, enhanced campsite privacy and safety, improved access to electricity and drinking water, and brand-new amenities such as an amphitheatre, multi-use pavilion, kitchen shelter, and camp store. Renovations to existing buildings and better signage will also make navigating the campground easier. While the work is ongoing, visitors can still enjoy a taste of what’s to come, with 30 campsites, two yurts, two group sites, and a cabin available in summer 2025.
La Pêche Lake remains completely unaffected by the construction, offering a fully operational escape into nature. With its extended season running from May 16 to October 13, 2025, it’s the perfect choice for those eager to explore Gatineau Park’s rugged beauty by canoe.
With summer just a few months away, now is the time to start planning. Whether it’s a quiet retreat at Taylor Lake, an adventurous canoe trip at La Pêche, or a family-friendly getaway near Philippe Lake’s sandy shores, Gatineau Park offers something for every camper. Mark the calendar, set the alarms, and get ready to book on March 15—nature is calling!
