From January 25 to March 8, 2025, this winter ride makes exploring the park’s snowy landscapes easier than ever. Whether you're a snowshoeing enthusiast, a cross-country skier, or simply looking for a day in nature, this service takes the hassle out of transportation so you can focus on the fun.
The service runs every Saturday (except February 15), offering a round trip from Ottawa to Gatineau Park. In the morning, riders depart from downtown Ottawa at 9:00 a.m., with stops at Mackenzie Avenue near the Fairmont Château Laurier and the Canadian Museum of History on Laurier Street. From there, the journey continues to Relais plein air and Camp Fortune—two ideal starting points for winter activities. The return trip leaves Camp Fortune at 2:30 p.m., ensuring plenty of time to enjoy the great outdoors.
Relais plein air is perfect for those eager to explore Gatineau Park’s renowned trails. Once you arrive, you can rent cross-country skis, snowshoes, or snow bikes and fuel up on snacks at the cozy lodge. From Trail 27 for skiing to Trail 65 for snow biking and snowshoeing, there’s an activity for every winter lover. While winter hiking is not available here, the other options more than make up for it.
Camp Fortune is another fantastic stop, offering something for adventurers of all levels. With over twenty slopes, downhill skiing and snowboarding take center stage, but it’s not just about racing down the mountain. Camp Fortune’s network of trails caters to snowshoeing and backcountry cross-country skiing enthusiasts too. Rentals and food options are available at the lodge, making it easy to plan a full day of winter fun.
Reservations for the ride are mandatory, as spaces are limited. While transportation is free, any activity or equipment rental fees are the responsibility of participants. The good news? Show your reservation at the Relais plein air counter, and you’ll score discounts on rentals.
Before heading out, it’s worth checking Gatineau Park’s winter guide for trail maps and safety tips. Only skis and snowshoes are allowed on board, so leave the bikes at home, and remember that cellphone reception can be spotty in the park. For those requiring accessible transportation, paratransit services are available through STO or Transcollines.
This free ride service isn’t just a mode of transportation—it’s a gateway to unforgettable winter adventures. So grab your gear, make your reservation, and let Gatineau Park’s snowy wonderland take your breath away.
